By Michael Tait
Garden pond a great opportunity for most gardens, but you must plan for the future. Garden pond with no water sports or aquatic plants will look unnatural and gloomy. Stocking the pond with plants, performs an important function, in addition to making the pond look natural, health underwater environment.
Access to your garden pond
Ideal location near your home where you can evaluate it year round. Ponds attract wildlife like birds and butterflies, so nice to just sit and watch the pond. Some thoughts on its position not to put her under the trees or you will spend a lot of time cleaning out fallen leaves. Pond also requires several hours of direct sunlight, some water sports like water lilies.
Natural Balance
The purpose of the garden pond is nearly the support, so that there is minimal maintenance. There should be a natural balance between all its components, size, depth, water sports, and fish. You need a decent size pond surface area and different depths, to be able to include a balanced selection of different kinds of aquatic plants.
Depth garden pond
There are several classifications for aquatic sports, and each of them has an important role in the life of the reservoir. That’s why you need a pond with protrusions around the edge of various depths. The first level should be between 8 to 10 cm deep for marginal small-scale plants. Second level should be provided for deep marginal plants about 12 cm, and the deep human need to be between 15 and 18 inches deep marginal plants, water lilies, oxygen plants, and floating plants. In the central part of the reservoir should be at least 24 cm in depth, if you want to fish.
The roles of various aquatic plants
As I said, you must provide sufficient surface so you can fit in each of the different categories of plants. Floating leaves of water lilies provide shade to prevent algae growth. Floating plants provide food and shelter for fish, as well as light shade. Underwater plants oxygen plants, which create a balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide, as well as feed for fish. Marginal plants on the edges provide shade and shelter.
Planting Your Aquatics
The easiest way to plant aquatic plants in aquatic baskets. Line the basket with burlap canvas to stop seepage from the land into the pond. In addition, it is a good idea to sprinkle a well-washed gravel around the plant in the basket. With baskets you have the opportunity to bring them on bricks to adjust the height.
When buying water plants you will receive instructions on the proper depth to plant them – is the depth measured from the level of compost and gravel on the surface of water. Time to plant your water sports is from spring to autumn, when they are actively growing.
